welcome to another Blackwake update. A few days ago we had another big play test with Malakith Skadi and his awesome group. We had some major problems initially at the start as well as some game breaking bugs but it went a bit smoother in the end as you can see in the video.
Two bugs we had were absolutely crazy gameplay wise. Some team mates would be wearing the enemy's uniform so team killing all around, and the ships were unable to turn right! So ships were going around in circles while people were killing their team mates. A little bit hilarious and sad at the same time. Having more players in the game during testing showed us new problems. After the testing had finished we were able to fix those problems easily.
Doing this test allowed us to see our networking limits especially with Unity Free. It's such a shame that Unity is limited to so many things and to further the experience requires you to pay for third party assets.
So with that said, we have been planning for this a long time even since march earlier this year on running a Kickstarter to cover all expenses for development. We hope to be launching a Kickstarter campaign within the next month.
With the Kickstarter not only will you be supporting us, but you'll also receive some goodies like exclusive supporter items and early game access before release.

But we passed long time from the last time you talk about vessels. We know well the 'Hoy' and we watch in an awesome tour video the 'Galeon'.
So my question is, do you still keep the idea of 3 kinds of vessels where the 'Galeon' is medium size? Are you working in others vessels nowadays? How many vessels will be available when the game release in late 2016 according your timetable?We're still deciding on this. From our experience past a certain point the ships actually become less fun when very large. We do want more vessels, just not sure how much bigger they may get. I will be really disappointed if people who are followed by a bunch of children get to play over people who actually paid for the game.You should know how much time they spent sitting in the main menu while I fixed things that broke gameplay during the match.
In reality it's only 20% playtesting, 80% sending me output logs and explaining how they caused x and y. The later tests have been more playing, but that's because they were helping with the bugs. This was all offline. We are in the matches with them the entire time voice chatting as problems are discovered.
We are not doing this for publicity as some are accusing. The Kickstarter is over, release isn't for a long time, and there is no pre ordering, so the publicity isn't going to do much right now.You have to realize we don't have an official internal testing team to test things before they go live for anything critical. We have backers, but it would be incredibly difficult to test on such short notice with a select few of you due to time zones and work schedules.
We are trying to figure out a way to use the beta branch in the future for this so backers can willingly hop into pretests, but there are some difficulties with that and we'd prefer to get the first alpha to you guys asap.Streamers will only be able to play for a few hours live, and then they're shut out from the alpha until it officially begins. We didn't really want them to be live, but we realized that's the best way to keep them playing for a few hours while we can monitor everything. If we went straight into the first alpha it'd be difficult to monitor everything as closely. Note that only streamers who played during the Kickstarter are allowed, since they're familiar with the game and know what to expect.We're sorry about the communication error, this devblog did not spend as much time cooking as the others.
